Time to Move Some Dirt
The time has finally come. We've done everything we need to prepare our raised garden bed frames and we're ready to get out our wheelbarrow and shovel and get to work. Along the way, we encountered a pretty significant problem that we had to remedy quickly. So keep reading to see how we filled our frames and overcame a design flaw with a cheap fix.
Move It Outside
Bring Out the Tools!
So far we've spent quite a bit of time preparing for our garden. Now that the layout has been designed and the ground has been prepared, it's time the fun part...building the frame! Bust out your power tools and read along as we assemble our frame in 3 separate pieces before bringing it all outside.
Time to Get Dirty!
...but in a fun way! :) Your garden boundary has been marked off, now it's just a matter of preparing the ground to receive your framed beds. It's a little labor-intensive, but doing it right at this stage will save you a lot of headaches down the road. Take a look with us as we accounted for our sloped backyard and got our garden ready for the frames!
Staking and Marking the Site
We have our design, and we have our site...time to make the concept become reality! In this article, we'll take our concept artwork, put it to scale, and begin the process of staking out the ground and marking off our future raised bed sites. I did this step with my son, and he had a blast, so please follow along and see how we took our garden outdoors!
The Designing Phase
It's easy to say, "I want to build a raised garden bed." It's something else entirely to determine what it will actually look like in the end. Through lots of sketching, planning, and research, we'll walk you through our process and show you how we arrived at our final design.
The Driving Force
As anyone with a family of 5 will tell you, food is always one of the larger items of any family's monthly budget. Sure, you can cut out the restaurants and fast food to make things cheaper, but the grocery bill is going to be high...there's just no getting around it. A large family really has two options if they want to try to put a dent in this monthly expenditure: take up extreme couponing, or make their own garden.
Read along as we update all of our new projects and show step-by-step how we worked together as a family to get it done!
